Michael Calnan

Michael Calnanis a formerIrish Labour Partypolitician fromCounty Cork.He was asenatorfrom 1993 to 1997.[1]

A teacher and former vice principal of the Maria Immaculata Secondary school inDunmanwayand long-serving member ofCork County Councilfor theSkibbereenelectoral area[2]– he was chairman of the council from 1988 to 1989 and 1992 to 1993[3]– he stepped down at the1999 local elections.[2]He attendedUniversity College Corkwhere he obtained a B.A, H.dip Ed, and a master's degree.[citation needed]

Calnan stood unsuccessfully as a candidate forDáil Éireannin theCork South-Westconstituency on three occasions, at theFebruary 1982,1992,and1997 general elections.After his 1992 defeat, he stood in the 1993 elections to the20th Seanad,winning a seat on theAgricultural Panel.[4]He did not contest the 1997 Seanad elections.[5]
