Michael Foylan(29 June 1907 – 28 May 1976) was a Scottish clergyman who served as theRoman CatholicBishop of Aberdeenfrom 1964 to 1976.[1]
Biography
[edit]Born inShettleston,Glasgow,Lanarkshirein June 1907, he wasordainedaprieston 5 July 1931 for theDiocese of Dunkeld.He wascurateofSt Andrew's Cathedral, Dundee1931–1937 and St Joseph's,Dundee1937–1946.[2]He was appointed parish priest of St Serf's,High Valleyfieldin 1946 and returned to St Andrew's Cathedral as parish priest in 1949.[2]
He was appointed theBishopof theDiocese of Aberdeenby theHoly Seeon 8 December 1964, andconsecratedto theEpiscopateon 25 March 1965. The principalconsecratorwas ArchbishopGordon Joseph Gray,and the principal co-consecrators were BishopJoseph Michael McGeeand BishopWilliam Andrew Hart.He attended the fourth session of theSecond Vatican Councilin 1965.[1]
He died in office on 28 May 1976 at the age of 68.[1]
