Michael Timothy "Bueno" Good(born October 13, 1962) is a retiredNASAastronaut,engineerand retiredcommissioned officerin theUnited States Air Force,holding the rank ofColonel.Mike Good flew aboardSpace ShuttleAtlantisfor itsSTS-125mission. STS-125 was the finalHubble Space Telescopeservicing mission. Good flew as mission specialist 2 to the International Space Station onSTS-132.[1]

Early life[edit]

Good was born inParma,Ohio,but was raised inBroadview Heights.

Good went to college and received aBachelor of Scienceinaerospace engineeringat theUniversity of Notre Dame,before completing aMaster of Scienceprogram there in 1986.

He is married to the former Joan Dickinson also of Broadview Heights. They have three children Bryan, Jason and Shannon and two grandchildren Gavin and Braxton.

Good graduated fromBrecksville-Broadview Heights High SchoolofBroadview Heights,Ohio, in 1980. He earned a B.S. inAerospace Engineeringfrom theUniversity of Notre Damein 1984, and an M.S. inAerospace Engineeringfrom theUniversity of Notre Damein 1986.

Military career[edit]

After graduation, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in theUnited States Air Force,completed his postgraduate degree, and was subsequently assigned to the USAF Tactical Air Warfare Center atEglin Air Force Base,Florida as a flight test engineer for the BGM-109Gryphonground-launched cruise missile (GLCM) program. Selected for Undergraduate Navigator Training, he reported to flight training atMather Air Force Base,California and received his wings as a USAF Navigator in 1989. He later flew theF-111 Aardvarkfighter-bomber with the20th Tactical Fighter Wing(20 TFW), later renamed the20th Fighter Wing(20 FW) atRAF Upper Heyford,United Kingdom. He was selected for USAF Test Pilot School atEdwards Air Force Base,California in 1993 and graduated in 1994. As a military aviator, he has flown more than 30 types of aircraft, including theF-111,B-2Spirit stealth bomber and theF-15E Strike Eagle,and has logged more than 3000 hours of flight in various jet aircraft. Good was selected and began training as amission specialistbyNASAin2000.He is one of only two Air Force ratednavigatorswho have been selected as astronauts (the other beingRichard Mullane,selected in 1978). Both of these navigators wereweapon systems officers.[2]

Top Academic Graduate of Specialized Undergraduate Navigator Training, 1989;F-111Replacement Training Unit, 1989;USAFTest Pilot School, 1994. Aircrew of the Year,77th Fighter Squadron,1991. Military decorations include the Legion of Merit,Meritorious Service Medal(4),Aerial Achievement Medal(2),Air Force Commendation Medal,Air Force Achievement Medal,Combat Readiness Medaland various other service awards.

He retired from NASA on May 31, 2019.[3]
