Michael Nathaniel Oliphant(born May 19, 1963) is a formerAmerican footballrunning backin theNational Football League(NFL) for theWashington RedskinsandCleveland Browns.He also played in theCanadian Football League(CFL) for theSacramento Gold Minersand theWinnipeg Blue Bombers.

Early life

Oliphant was born inJacksonville, Florida.He attendedAuburn Senior High SchoolinAuburn, Washington,then transferred toFederal Way High SchoolinFederal Way, Washingtonmidway through his junior year. He did not play varsity high school football.[2]

College career

Oliphant playedcollege footballat the NAIA Division IUniversity of Puget Sound,where he was aNAIAAll-Americanin 1986. That year, he also set school records for most points scored in one game and most points scored in a season. Oliphant graduated in 1988.

Professional career

Oliphant was selected in the third round of the1988 NFL draftby theWashington Redskins.[3]He was traded to theCleveland Brownsin 1989 forEarnest Byner.He was in Cleveland for three seasons, spending all of 1990 and 12 games of 1991 on injured-reserve status with hamstring injuries.[2]He was signed by theSeattle Seahawksin 1992,[2]but was released before the start of the season. He finished his career in the CFL with theSacramento Gold Minersand theWinnipeg Blue Bombers.
