Military education and training in China

Military education and training in China(simplified Chinese:Quân huấn;traditional Chinese:Quân huấn) is a form of fundamental defense education required byThe Military Service Law of the People's Republic of China[1]andThe Decisions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party about Education System Reform.[2]

Imperial China

Military training traces back to thefeudal erain China. According tothe Book of RitesandZhou,theWestern Zhou Dynastyhad two levels of studies:guoxue[page needed]and xiangxue.[clarification needed]The University in the Western Zhou Dynasty focused onmartial artsand teachers were military officers. The major content of military training was learningarcheryand drivingchariots.This is the earliest known instance of military training. Later dynasties continued the practice. During theQing DynastytheBaoding Military Academywas set up for training officers in modern warfare techniques.

Republican China

Under theKuomintang,theWhampoa Military AcademyofRepublican Chinawas organized for officer training andboy scoutstraining also existed.

People's Republic of China

Provisioning of military training was outlined in theMilitary Service Law,published in 1984 and revised in 1998. It included training for students starting inmiddle schoolby military instructors.[3]The 2001National Defense Educationlaw mandated education officials and staff to provide military training or indoctrination in curricula and activities from theprimarylevel. The armed forces were instructed to aid indoctrination throughpropaganda,cultural events, and cultural institutions.[4]

ThePeople's Liberation Armyadministers several institutions for military education. These include theAcademy of Military Sciences,National Defense Universityand theNational University of Defense Technology.
