TheMolochna(Ukrainian:Молочна,lit. 'milky';Russian:Моло́чная,romanized:Molochnaya) is ariverinZaporizhzhia Oblast,southernUkraine.The river is connected with theRussian Mennoniteculture, once based in the southeastern region of Ukraine since 1804 asMolotschnacolony which was part of theRussian Empireat that time.
In antiquity the river was calledGerrhusorGerrus(Ancient Greek:Γέρρος). The river was calledTokmak(Nogai:Токмак) by theNogais.[1][2]
The Molochna is formed by the confluence of the Chynhul and Tokmak rivers, just north ofMolochansk.It flows roughly southwards, throughMelitopoland into theMolochnyi Estuaryin theAzov Sea.Its length is 197 kilometres (122 mi) and its drainage basin is 3,450 km2.[3]A former island in the river contains the archaeological site ofKamyana Mohyla.
