Mudug(Somali:Mudug) is an administrative region (gobol) in north-centralSomalia.[5]The population of Mudug is 131,455 as of 2005.[6]

Overview

Physiographically, Mudug is bordered to the west byEthiopia,[7]to the north and south by the Somali regions ofNugalandGalguduudrespectively, and to the east by theIndian Ocean.The provincial capital isGalkayo.

The southern half of Mudug and the region of Galgaduud have formed theGalmudug State,which considers itself an autonomous state within the largerFederal Republicof Somalia, as defined by theprovisional constitution of Somalia.[8]
