Garlic sauce (mujdei)

Mujdei[1](Romanian pronunciation:[muʒˈdej],plural:mujdeie) is a traditionalspicyRomanian sauce.It is made fromgarlic clovescrushed and ground into apaste,salted and mixed energetically withvegetable oil(almost alwayssunflower oil). Depending onregionalpreferences and thedishit is served with,lemonor otheringredientsmay be added. The result is awhitesaucewith a strong garlic flavor, varying inconsistencyfrom a thick paste to a runny sauce. In some parts ofRomaniamujdeiis made out ofcream,ground garlic, andsalt.Sometimes ground garlic, salt, little water, oil and paprika powder.

It is served with a variety of dishes, includingfried fish,fried or grilled chickenorpork,rasol,andfried potatoes.

The wordmujdeiis derived from the phrasemust de ai,meaning "garlic must (juice)".[1]
