NGC1233(also listed as NGC 1235) is aspiral galaxyin theconstellationofPerseus.Its velocity with respect to thecosmic microwave backgroundis 4218 ± 14km/s, which corresponds to aHubble distanceof 202.9 ± 14.2Mly(62.22 ± 4.36Mpc).[1]In addition, threenon redshiftmeasurements give a distance of 211.35 ± 2.14 Mly (64.800 ± 0.656 Mpc).[2]The galaxy was discovered byFrenchastronomerÉdouard Stephanon 10 December 1871.[3]It is also thought to have been observed byLewis Swifton 21 October 1886, and later listed as NGC 1235.[4]

Threesupernovaehave been observed in NGC1233: SN2009lj (typeIc,mag.19),[5]SN2017lf (typeIa,mag.17.3),[6]and SN2022bqi (typeII,mag.17).[7]

NGC 1207 Group

NGC 1233 is a part of the 3 memberNGC 1207group(also known asLGG83). The third galaxy in the group isUGC 2604.[8]
