NGC 4296is abarred lenticular galaxy[2]located about 200 millionlight-yearsaway[3]in the constellationVirgo.It was discovered by astronomerWilliam Herschelon April 13, 1784.[4]It forms a pair withNGC 4297,[5]and both galaxies are listed as CGCG 042-041, and KPG 331.[6]

It also interacts withNGC 4297.[7]
