Nandyalis a city and District headquarters ofNandyal districtof theIndianstate ofAndhra Pradesh.It is amunicipalityand the headquarters of NandyalmandalinNandyal revenue division.[1][2]

In the 2011census of India,Nandyal had a population of 211,424 making it the13thmost populous town in the state.[3]

Nandyal municipality was constituted in the year 1899. The jurisdictional area is spread over an area of 19 km2(7.3 sq mi).[4]Its urban agglomeration is spread over an area of 33.67 km2(13.00 sq mi) which includes constituents of Nandyal municipality,out growthsof Moolasagaram, Noonepalle and partial outgrowths of Udumalpuram, Ayyalur.[1]

Mahanandi

Nandyal is surrounded by nine sacred temples known as theNava Nandi.SriYagantiUma Maheswara Templenear Nandyal has one of the largest Nandi idols of the world. As per theArchaeological Survey of India,the rock grows at a rate of 1 inch (2.5 cm) per 20 years. Nandyal District also consists ofBelum Caves,MahanandiandSrisailam.[5]

Economy[edit]

The city is a major hub of industry and agriculture. It is rich innatural resourceslikemarble.There are manyrice millsandoil millsandCotton millsand industries which producemilk,soft drinks,sugar,PVC pipes,etc. Some of the renowned industries in the City are the Vijaya Dairy, Nandi Dairy, Nandi Pipes, Nandi Polymers, S. P. Y. Agro, Nandi Steels, etc.[8][9]

Transport[edit]

TheAndhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporationoperates bus services from Nandyal bus station.[10] NandyalJunction Railway Station is administered underGuntur railway divisionofSouth Central Railways.[11] Kurnool Airportis 50 km from Nandyal.

The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under theSchool Education Departmentof the state.[12][13]
