TheNational Museum of Science and Technology(Spanish:Museo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología– MUNCYT) is atechnology museumin Spain devoted to technology promotion and preservation. It owns a collection of more than 19,000scientific instruments,technological devices, vehicles, machines and industrial tools from the16th centuryuntil nowadays. Dependent on theMinistry of Science,it is one of the National Museums of Spain, and it is managed by theSpanish Foundation for Science and Technology(FECYT).[1]

The museum was established on 30 June 1980[2]and its first location was opened on 1997 in the old Delicias railway station building inMadridsharing premises with theRailway Museum.[3]The museum current main exhibition hall is inLa Coruña,opened on 4 May 2012,[4]with a second exhibition hall inAlcobendas(Madrid) opened on 12 December 2014.[5]The museum is a member of theInternational Council of Museumsscience & technology committee (CIMUSET) and of theEuropean Network of Science Centres and Museums(ECSITE).

Among the pieces in display at La Coruña are the front section of the "Lope de Vega", anIberiaBoeing 747in service between 1981 and 2003, airplane that brought Picasso'sGuernicato Spain in September 1981,[6]the prototype of the "Mechanical Encyclopedia", the 1949 mechanical precursor to theelectronic book,by Spanish inventorÁngela Ruiz Robles,[7]a replica of thestratonautical space suit,the 1935 precursor to thespace suit,by engineerEmilio Herrera,theFresnel lensused between 1857 and 1904 at theTower of Herculeslighthouse[8]and the first computer arriving in Spain, anIBM 650computer bought byRENFEin 1959.[9]
