Newryis one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) inNewry, Mourne and Down,Northern Ireland.^[1]The district elects six members toNewry, Mourne and Down District Counciland contains the wards of Abbey, Ballybot, Damolly, Drumalane, Fathom and St. Patrick's.^[2]Newry forms part of the Newry and Armagh constituencies for theNorthern Ireland AssemblyandUK Parliament.

It was created for the1985 local elections,where it was calledNewry Townuntil 2014, replacingNewry and Mourne Areas DandFwhich had existed since 1973, and originally contained seven wards (Ballybot, Daisy Hill, Drumalane, Drumgallion, St. Mary's, St. Patrick's and Windsor Hill). For the2014 local electionsit was reduced by one ward.
