Niels Arden Oplev(pronounced[ˈne̝lsˈɑˀtn̩ˈʌple̝w];born 26 March 1961) is a Danish film director and screenwriter.[1]
Life and career
[edit]Oplev was born in Oue, Denmark. His 1996 filmPortlandwas entered into the46th Berlin International Film Festival.[2]
He directedThe Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,the 2009 Swedish film based onStieg Larsson's novel of the same title, and won critical acclaim internationally. The film broke box office records in Europe, grossing over 100 million US dollars.[3]Oplev decided to not continue directing the second and third parts of theMillennium Trilogydue to time constraints.
As announced on 30 November 2012, Oplev directed the pilot of a 13-episode mini-series based on the Stephen King novelUnder the Domefor CBS.[4]
He directedDead Man Down,a 2013 film starringColin Farrell,Noomi Rapace,Dominic Cooper,Terrence HowardandF. Murray Abraham.[5]
He was at one point set to directThe Keepbased again on the novelwith the same name,[6]andGood Peoplebased on the novel byMarcus Sakey.[7]
In 2015,USA NetworkairedMr. Robot,and Oplev directed the pilot episode, which went on to win twoEmmy nominations.[8]
