Noah's wife
Noah's wifeis one of thefour wives aboard Noah's Ark.While nameless in the Bible (Genesis 4:22; Gen. 7:7), apocryphal literature lists 103 variations of her name and personality.[1]
Some apocryphal literature identified her withNaamah, the daughter ofLamech,[citation needed]and thus a descendant ofCain, but thedeuterocanonicalBook of Tobitstates that Noah's wife was one of his "own kindred" (Tobit 4:12). In theDead Sea Scrolls, she is named Emzara.[2]
In Mandaeism[edit]
TheBook of Kings, the final book of theMandaeanRight Ginza,[3]refers to Noah's (orShem's)[4]wife by the name Nuraita (orNhuraitha, Anhuraita, among various other spellings).[5]There is some contradiction between texts, and some textual ambiguity, regarding which patriarch is married to Nuraita; additionally, Anhuraita appears to be aportmanteauof Nuraita and Anhar, the wives of Noah and Shem.[6]
