Nora Fatehi(born 6 February 1992[1][2]) is a Canadian dancer and actress based in India. She has appeared inHindi,TeluguandMalayalamfilms. Fatehi made her acting debut with the Hindi filmRoar: Tigers of the Sundarbans.[3][4]

Fatehi gained popularity in Telugu films for her special appearance songs in films likeTemper,Baahubali: The BeginningandKick 2and has also starred in two Malayalam films,Double BarrelandKayamkulam Kochunni.In 2015, Fatehi participated as a contestant on the reality television showBigg Boss.In 2016, she was a participant in the reality television dance showJhalak Dikhhla Jaa.She appeared in the Bollywood filmSatyameva Jayatewhere she was featured in the recreated version of the song "Dilbar"[5]and the song crossed 20 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours of its release, making it the first Hindi song to achieve such numbers in India. She also collaborated with theMoroccanhip-hopgroup Fnaïre to release anArabicversion of theDilbarsong.[6][7]

In 2019, she collaborated with Tanzanian musician and songwriterRayvannyto release her first international English debut songPepeta.In October 2022, she was chosen to feature inLight The Sky,a song for the2022 FIFA World Cupin Qatar, collaborating with artists,RedOne,Manal,BalqeesandRahma Riad.[8]Fatehi has since played supporting parts in Hindi filmsStreet Dancer 3D(2020) andBhuj: The Pride of India(2021). She has also judged television showsDance Deewane JuniorsandJhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10.

Early life

Fatehi was born and raised in Canada,[9][10]and is ofMoroccandescent from both her father's and mother’s side.[11]She graduated fromWestview Centennial Secondary Schoolin Toronto. She studied political science and international relations atYork University.[12]She has stated in interviews that she considers herself "an Indian at heart."[13]

Career

Debut and dancing roles (2014-2019)

Nora Fatehi began her career with her debut appearance in theHindi filmRoar: Tigers of the Sundarbans.She played CJ, in her acting debut.[14]She then ventured intoTelugufilms with item number, "Ittage Recchipodham", inPuri Jagannadh's filmTemper.[15]She also made a special appearance in the filmMr. Xdirected byVikram Bhattand produced byMahesh Bhatt,alongsideEmraan HashmiandGurmeet Choudhary.Fatehi further appeared in item numbers for films such asBaahubali: The Beginning's song "Manohari"[16]and inKick 2's song "Kukkurukuru".[17]

In late June 2015, she signed a Telugu filmSher.In late August 2015, she signed a Telugu filmLoaferwhich is directed by Puri Jagannadh starring oppositeVarun Tej.She also appeared as an item number in Karthi's Bilingual filmOopiri/Thozhain late November 2015.[18]In December 2015, Fatehi entered theBigg Bosshouse as a wild card entrant in theninth season.[19]She spent 3 weeks inside the house before getting evicted in the 12th week (Day 83). She also participated in the reality television showJhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9in 2016. She starred in the filmMy Birthday Songas the lead actress oppositeSanjay Suri.

In February 2019, she signed a contract with the record labelT-Seriesas an exclusive artist, and will feature on their upcoming films, music videos, web series, and web films. In the same year, she appeared inBatla House,in the song "O Saki O Saki" and inMarjaavaanin the song "Ek Toh Kum Zindagani". Fatehi then played Suzan Vilayati Khan oppositeSunil Grover,inBharat.[20]

Expansion to acting roles (2020-present)

Fatehi played Mia, a dancer in the 2020dance filmStreet Dancer 3D,oppositeVarun Dhawan.[21]On 6 March 2021, Fatehi became the first African-Arab female artiste whose song "Dilbar"crossed one billion views on YouTube.[22]She also made her international single debut with the song "Dirty Little Secret" in collaboration withZack Knightwhich was subsequently performed by her in the22nd IIFA Awards.[23][24][25]In that year, she played a spy Heena inBhuj: The Pride of India,replacingParineeti Chopra.[26]

Fatehi in 2022

In 2022, Fatehi made appearances in the song "Manike" for the filmThank God,sung byYohani,which is a remix of the original Sri Lankan song "Manike Mange Hite".[27][28]She also appeared in the song "Jehda Nasha" from the filmAn Action HeroalongsideAyushman Khuranna.[29][30]In the same year she gave a performance in the closing ceremony of the2022 FIFA World Cup.[31][32]She also took on the role of a judge in dance shows like "Dance Deewane Juniors "(season 1)andJhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10alongside other judges.[33]In 2023, she made an appearance in the song "Achha Sila Diya" alongsideRajkummar Raoafter her collaboration with him in the song "Kamariya" for the filmStreein 2018.[34]The song, composed and sung byB Praakwith lyrics by Jaani, is a recreation of the film song "Achha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyar Ka" which was featured in the 1995 Hindi filmBewafa Sanam.[35][36]

In 2024, Fatehi took on more acting roles. She appeared as Alia, a social media influencer, inCrakkoppositeVidyut Jammwal.[37]The film received negative reviews and Monika Rawal Kukreja ofHindustan Timesstated, "Nora is used as a mere prop and even though her character arc takes the story forward, she doesn't get ample scope to perform."[38]Fatehi next played Tasha, oppositeDivyennduinKunal Khemu's directorial debutMadgaon Express.[39]Mayur Sanap fromRediffnoted, "For a change, Nora Fatehi gets a legit role to play and she is suitably affable."[40]

Vedanshi Pathak ofFilmfarenoted, "One song after the other, Fatehi proved that there is no one in the industry who can dance with such conviction and look appealing while doing so."[41]She is an endorser for brands such asDaburand CakeZone.[42][43]Fatehi became the only actress to perform the second time at theIIFA Awardsin 2023.[44]In March 2023, Fatehi performed in various cities in theUnited Statesfor "The Entertainers" tour, alongsideAkshay Kumar,Disha Patani,Mouni Roy,Sonam Bajwa,Aparshakti Khurana,Stebin Benand Zahrah S Khan.[45]
