Nordlysis aNorwegiannewspaperpublished inTromsø,[1]covering the region ofTroms,[2]and the largest newspaper inNorthern Norway.

History and profile[edit]

Nordlyswas founded in 1902[3]byAlfred Eriksen,who also was its firsteditor-in-chief.The majority owner of the paper isA-Pressen,[3][4]until 2012, when A-Pressen was renamedAmedia.[5]The paper is headquartered inTromsø.[3]It was an organ of theLabour Party.[3]

Among the later editors areIvan Kristoffersen,who edited the newspaper from 1982 to 1997, andHans Kristian Amundsenwho served in the position from 2001 to 2011.[5]

Anders Opdahlserved as chief editor from 2011 to 2016, andHelge Nitteberghas been chief editor since 2016.[5]

Nordlyshas been one of the major sponsors of theTromsø International Film Festivalsince its inception in 1991.[6]

The circulation ofNordlyswas 28,000 copies in 2005.[3]In 2008 the paper had a circulation of 26,714 copies. It was 26,000 copies in 2009.[1]
