TheNoxubee River(NAHKS-uh-bee) is atributaryof theTombigbee River,about 90.6 miles (145.8 km) long, in east-centralMississippiand west-centralAlabamain theUnited States.[1][2][3]Via the Tombigbee, it is part of thewatershedof theMobile River,which flows to theGulf of Mexico.
Course
[edit]The Noxubee rises in Choctaw Lake in theTombigbee National ForestinChoctaw County, Mississippi,and flows generally southeastwardly throughWinston,OktibbehaandNoxubeeCounties in Mississippi, andSumter Countyin Alabama, through theNoxubee National Wildlife Refugeand past the town ofMacon, Mississippi.It joins the Tombigbee River from the west, about 2 mi (3 km) west ofGainesville, Alabama.
Name
[edit]Noxubeeis a name derived from theChoctaw languagemeaning "to stink".[4]
