Nurlat(Russian:Нурла́т;Tatar:Норлат) is atownin theRepublic of Tatarstan,Russia,located on theKondurcha River,268 kilometers (167 mi) southeast ofKazan.Population:32,601 (2010 Census);[2]32,527 (2002 Census);[6]23,507 (1989 Soviet census).[7]

History

Nurlat was formerly known asNurlat-Oktyabrsky.[citation needed]

It was founded in 1905 as a settlement around arailway station.[citation needed]Town status was granted to it in 1961.[citation needed]

Administrative and municipal status

Within theframework of administrative divisions,Nurlat serves as theadministrative centerofNurlatsky District,even though it is not a part of it.[1]As an administrative division, is incorporated separately as thetown of republic significanceof Nurlat—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of thedistricts.[1]As amunicipal division,the town of republic significance of Nurlat is incorporated within Nurlatsky Municipal District asNurlat Urban Settlement.[3]
