Oscar Marin(born December 5, 1982) is an Americanprofessional baseballcoach.He is thepitching coachfor thePittsburgh PiratesofMajor League Baseball(MLB). He has also coached in MLB for theTexas Rangers.
Playing career
[edit]Marin graduated fromChatsworth High SchoolinChatsworth, California.Marin played forLos Angeles Valley Collegefor two seasons (2001–2002).[1]He then pitched for two seasons (2003–2004) at theUniversity of Arkansas-Little Rock.[2]
Coaching career
[edit]Amateur/Minor leagues
[edit]Marin started his coaching career in 2005 as an assistant coach for theUniversity of Arkansas-Little Rockbaseball team.[3]In 2006 and 2007, he was the pitching coach atLos Angeles Valley College.[3]Marin spent 2008 and 2009 as the pitching coach atHarvard-Westlake High SchoolinNorth Hollywood, California.[4][3]
Marin began his career in professional baseball when he joined theTexas Rangersorganization, in 2010, as the pitching coach of theArizona Rangersof theRookie-levelArizona League.He remained in that role from 2010 to 2012. He was the pitching coach for theLeones de Ponceof thePuerto Rican Winter Leagueduring the 2012 offseason.[1]In 2013, Marin was the pitching coach of theSpokane Indiansof theClass A Short SeasonNorthwest League.[5]From 2014 to 2015, he served as pitching coach of theHickory Crawdadsof theClass ASouth Atlantic League.[6]In 2016, Marin was the pitching coach of theHigh Desert Mavericksof theClass A-AdvancedCalifornia League.[3]
Marin left the Rangers organization and was the minor league pitching coordinator for theSeattle Marinersin 2017 and 2018.[7][8]
Texas Rangers
[edit]Marin rejoined the Texas Rangers organization, for the first time on a major league staff, serving as theirbullpen coachfor the 2019 season.[9]
Pittsburgh Pirates
[edit]On December 17, 2019, Marin was hired by thePittsburgh Piratesas their pitching coach.[10]
Awards
[edit]Marin was named the South Atlantic League Coach of the Year for the 2015 season.[11]
