Apaste(Spanish:[ˈpaste]) (known as anempanadaorInglesain other Latin American countries: Argentina and Guatemala, UK diaspora 1880s[clarification needed]) is a smallpastryproduced in the state ofHidalgoin centralMexicoand in the surrounding area.[1]They are stuffed with a variety of fillings including potatoes and ground beef, apples, pineapple, sweetened rice, or other typical Mexican ingredients, such astingaandmole.
The paste has its roots in theCornish pastyintroduced by miners and builders fromCornwallin the United Kingdom, who were contracted in the towns ofMineral del Monte(Real del Monte) andPachucain Hidalgo starting in 1824.[2]
Festival[edit]
TheInternational Pasty Festivalis held in Real del Monte for three days each October.[3]
