Paul Joseph Jamin(9 February 1853 – 10 July 1903) was aFrenchpainterof theAcademic Classicismschool.

Life and career[edit]

Jamin was born inParisin 1853.[1]He was the son ofJules Jamin,physicist and permanent secretary of theFrench Academy of Sciences.[1]He married Augustine Marie Caroline Bastien in 1882, with whom he had four children.

He was a student ofGustave Boulanger.[2]

His paintings were shown frequently at theSalonthroughout the last quarter of the nineteenth century.[1]One of his best-known paintings isLe Brenn et sa part de butin(1893), which depicts the Gaulish chieftainBrennusviewing his captives after the looting ofRome.

Jamin died in Paris on 10 July 1903.[1]
