Pepper Annis an American animated television series created bySue Roseand aired onDisney's One Saturday MorningonABC.[2]It first premiered on September 13, 1997, and ended on November 18, 2000.[3]Pepper Annwas the first Disney animated television series to be created by a woman.

Tom Warburton,who later createdCartoon Network'sCodename: Kids Next Door,served as the lead character designer for the series.

Overview

Pepper Anncenters on the trials and tribulations that occur during the titular character's adolescence and charts her ups and downs at Hazelnut Middle School. The character originated in a comic strip published inYMmagazine.[4]

  • Pepper Ann Pearson (voiced byKathleen Wilhoite) is the titularprotagonistof the series, who is a bespectacled, 12-year-old girl whose emotions come out in fantasies. She is of Jewish faith from her mother's side (as stated in the holiday-themed episode).
  • Nicky Anais Little (voiced byClea Lewis) is Pepper Ann's blonde-haired best friend, who is a shy and timid over-achiever.
  • Milo Kamalani (voiced byDanny Cooksey) is Pepper Ann's other best friend, who is a laid-back artist.
  • Lydia Pearson (voiced byApril Winchell) is the mother of Pepper Ann and Moose.
  • Margaret Rose "Moose" Pearson (voiced byPamela Adlon) is Pepper Ann's stoic younger 7-year-old sister.

  • Principal Herb Hickey (voiced byDon Adams) is Hazelnut Middle School's tough disciplinarian with zero-tolerance for Pepper Ann's shenanigans. This was Adams's final role on television.
  • Vera Groober-Schwartz (voiced byPaddi Edwards) is Hazelnut Middle School'ssecretary.
  • Roland Carter (voiced byJim Cummings) is a science teacher at Hazelnut Middle School who is passionate about what he teaches. He is known for giving Pepper Ann detention slips, but does believe that she can be a good student even when she successfully does her assignments.
  • Abriola Stark (voiced byApril Winchell) is the math teacher at Hazelnut Middle School who is also in charge of the drama club.
  • Janie Lilly Diggety (voiced bySusan Tolsky) is Pepper Ann and Moose's aunt and Lydia's sister who served in the Peace Corps.
  • JoJo Diggety (voiced byTino Insana) is Pepper Ann and Moose's uncle and Janie's husband who works as a cop.
  • Trinket St. Blair (voiced byJenna von Oÿ) is a spoiled, rich, popular girl who is Pepper Ann's nemesis.
  • Cissy Rooney (voiced byKath Soucie) is an air-headed popular girl who is Trinket's best friend.
  • Dieter Lederhosen (voiced byJeff Bennett) is a German immigrant in Pepper Ann's class who loves food, especiallystrudel.

  • Peter "Pink-Eye Pete" Oglevee (voiced by Jeff Bennett) is a nerdy kid who suffers frompink eye.
  • Craig Bean (voiced by Jeff Bennett) is the "cool" 8th grader and Pepper Ann's love interest.
  • Alice Kane (voiced byLauren Tom) is Pepper Ann's nerdy rival.
  • Gwen Mezzrow (voiced byKimmy Robertson) is a bubbly girl who constantly alternates between stalking Milo and being entirely uninterested in him in favor of Dieter.
  • Sketch (voiced by Karen Duffy) is an 8th grader that Pepper Ann admires for her "coolness".
  • Shelf McClain (voiced by Jeff Bennett) is a Scottish student in Pepper Ann's class who bullies other students and steals their lunch money.

Pepper Annwas aired as part of theDisney's One Saturday Morningblock onABCfrom 1997 to 2001. Reruns were also shown onDisney's One TooonUPNduring the 2000–01 season, and later onDisney Channel,and onToon Disneyuntil 2008.

All 65 episodes of the series were released onDisney+on September 8, 2021,[5]with the episodes from seasons 4–5 listed under season 3 on the platform and most of the season 5's episode segments that are in mismatched order.[6]
