Peter Safran(born 22 November 1965) is a British–Americanfilm producer,studio executive,andtalent manager.[1]He currently serves as the co-chairperson and co-CEO ofDC StudiosalongsideJames Gunn.
Early life[edit]
Peter Safran is the son of Ordell and Henry Safran, ofAshkenazi Jewishdescent.[2] After growing up in the UK, Safran graduated fromPrinceton University.He earned his J.D. degree at theNew York University School of Law.[3]He worked as a corporateattorneyinNew York City,before becoming an assistant atUTA.[4]
Career[edit]
He became a manager at Gold-Miller Co and stayed there until 1998.[5]He then was a manager atBrillstein-Greyfor five years, before he was named president of Brillstein-Grey Management in 2003. As president, he was made responsible for day-to-day activities of the department, which had over 200 clients, includingBrad Pitt,Jennifer Aniston,Adam Sandler,Nicolas CageandCourteney Cox.[6]He left Brillstein-Grey in 2006, to launch The Safran Company, and took his entire client list with him.[7]As manager, he representedSean Combs,Adam Shankman,David Hyde Pierce,Jennifer Lopez,andBrooke Shields.[8]
During the last few years, Safran has been able to build uponThe Conjuring Universe[9]and produce films such asAquaman,Shazam!,The Suicide Squad,Shazam! Fury of the GodsandPeacemakertelevision series, and others under his banner through hisfirst-look dealwithWarner Bros.[10]
In October 2022, Safran andJames Gunnwere named co-chairs and co-CEOs ofDC Studios,overseeing film, television and animation projects. While Gunn will handle the creative aspects, Safran will handle the business side of the division. The two assumed their positions on 1 November 2022.[11][12][13][14]Safran and Gunn are involved in casting characters for the wider DCU, and Safran produces all films in the franchise.
