Genera

Phagomyxidsare a group ofobligateendoparasiticprotistsbelonging to the subphylumEndomyxainCercozoa.[1]Taxonomically, they are united under a single familyPhagomyxidae, orderPhagomyxida, sister to theplasmodiophores.[2]

Ecology

[edit]

Phagomyxids are mainly parasites ofbrown algae,[3]but some can parasiteoomycetes.[4]

Taxonomy

[edit]

The group was created in 1993 byCavalier-Smith,when it contained only the genusPhagomyxa.[2]Since then,Maullinia,a genus previously inPlasmodiophoridae, has joined the phagomyxids.[4]
