Pixie cut

Apixie cutis a shorthairstyle,generally short on the back and sides of the head and slightly longer on the top, with very shortbangs.It is a variant of a crop. The name is derived from the mythologicalpixie.[citation needed]

Pixie cuts were popularized first in the 1950s, whenAudrey Hepburnwore the style in her debut filmRoman Holiday(1953).Jean Sebergalso sported a pixie cut forOtto Preminger'sBonjour Tristesse(1958) andJean-Luc Godard'sBreathless(1960).[1]Further in the 1960s, the look was worn by actressMia Farrow(notably inRosemary's Babyin 1968), British modelTwiggy,andLaugh-In(1968–73) starGoldie Hawn.[2][3][4][5]

The pixie became fashionable again in the late 1970s and 1980s, with one of its most notable wearers being the actressJacqueline Pearcein the British TV seriesBlake's 7(1978–81). The pixie also was big in the mid 1990s, as worn bywaifmodelLucie de la FalaiseandMadonnain her world tour "The Girlie Show"(1993).Halle Berryappeared in theJames BondfilmDie Another Day(2002) wearing a pixie. Pixies are very easy to maintain and can be worn casually, or dressed up for special occasions.[6]

Columnist Pamela Hutchinson notes that the pixie hairstyle is often portrayed in films in a negative way, usually had when actors play characters that have been traumatized, imprisoned or are undergoing cancer treatment.[1]
