Genera

ThePleurotaceaeare afamilyof small to medium-sizedmushroomswhich have whitespores. The family contains 13generaover 412 species.[1]Members of Pleurotaceae can be mistaken for members ofMarasmiaceae.Perhaps the best known member is the oyster mushroom,Pleurotus ostreatus.

Many species in the generaPleurotusandHohenbueheliaarenematophagous, that is, they derive nutrition by consumingnematodes. This is made possible byhyphaethat may have adhesive knobs that attach to passing nematodes and secrete nematotoxic compounds.[2][3]
