Porilainen(Finnish pronunciation:[ˈpo.ri.lɑi̯.nen]) is asandwichandstreet fooddish inFinnish cuisinemade fromwhite breadand a thick slice ofsausage,normallyjagdwurst(jahtimakkara). Additional ingredients may include dicedsweet onion,choppedpickled cucumber,ketchup,mustard,and in some casesmayonnaiseorfried egg.[1]

The nameporilainenmay be apunon the wordpurilainen('burger'). While it literally means "something originating from the city ofPori",the dish was invented in the 1950s by students atSatakuntalainen Osakunta,one of thestudent nationsof theUniversity of Helsinki.[2]Nevertheless, the dish has been adopted by Pori and it is now considered a kind oftraditional foodof the locality.[3]
