Ra(hiragana:ら;katakana:ラ) is one of the Japanesekana,which each represent onemora.Both versions are written with two strokes and have origins in the character lương; both characters represent the sound[ɾa] .TheAinu languageuses a small katakana ㇻ to represent a finalrsound after anasound (アㇻar). The combination of an R-column kana letter withhandakuten゜-ら゚in hiragana, andラ゚in katakana was introduced to represent [la] in the early 20th century.[according to whom?]
