Rabih Kayrouz(Arabic:ربيع كيروز) (born 1973) is a Lebanesefashion designer,[1]creator andfounderof the fashion house Maison Rabih Kayrouz, established inParisin 2008.

Early life[edit]

RabihKayrouzwas born inLebanonin 1973. KayrouzmigratedtoParisat the age of 16 to study at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.[2]

Career[edit]

In 1995, aftertrainingfor several months in the workshops of design housesDiorandChanel,[3]Kayrouz returned toBeirutwhere he developed a reputation for designingevening gownsandwedding dresses.[4]

In 2008, Kayrouz returned to Paris to open his own design house at 38, Boulevard Raspail. The location was previously “Le Petit Theatre de Babylone” where Beckett's playWaiting for Godotwas performed for the first time.[5]Since 2009, Kayrouz has been a guest designer for theChambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture,[6]with his seasonal collections included in thebi-annual Parishaute-couturefashion shows.[7]In 2011, Kayrouz was selected by the prominent French ELLE Magazine as one of the “Emerging New Talents”.[8] In 2012 he abandoned the appellation “couture” to focus onready-to-wear.[9] In the same year, he created a capsule collection forLa Redoute(French mail order brand).[10]

Design signature[edit]

Kayrouz's design signature has been described aspragmatic,but daring in its use of haute-couturestyle codes.[11]He has been praised for his use of style “know-how” in creatingready-to-wearcollections which complement theurbanlifestyle.[12]

Contribution[edit]

Kayrouz co-founded in 2008 anon-profit organisationcalled the Starch Foundation, which helps young Lebanese designers launch and promote their debut collections.[13]
