Rav Karna

Karna(Hebrew:קרנא) was a rabbi ofBabylonia,of the first generation ofamoraim.In theBabylonian Talmudhe appears simply as Karna; in theJerusalem Talmudhe is entitledRav Karna.

He was a colleague ofSamuel of NehardeaandRav,and served as arabbinic judge.The phrase "Judges of the Exile" in theBabylonian Talmudis an epithet attributed to Karna andSamuel of Nehardea.[1]

He wrote a compilation ofBaraitastoSeder Nezikin,known asNezikin of the School of Karna.[2]He made his living from testing wine quality.[3]
