Francis Rostell"Red"Donahue(January 23, 1873 – August 25, 1913) was an AmericanMajor League BaseballpitcherfromWaterbury, Connecticut,who played for 13 seasons both in theNational Leagueand theAmerican Leaguefrom1893through1906.[1]

Career

Red broke into the Majors with theNew York Giantsin 1893, while still attendingVillanova University.After finishing college in1895,he appeared with theSt. Louis Brownsnear the end of the season. On July 8,1898,he pitched ano-hitteragainst theBoston Beaneaters.He lost 35 games during the 1897 season, still an MLB record.

Post-career

Red died inPhiladelphiaat the age of 40, after succumbing to the effects ofparalysis,[2]and was interred at St. Joseph Cemetery inWaterbury, Connecticut.[1]
