Revagupti(pronouncedrēvagupti) is arāgaminCarnatic music(musical scale of South Indian classical music). It is a pentatonic scale (audavarāgam orowdavarāgam). It is ajanyarāgam (derived scale), as it does not have all the sevenswaras(musical notes).

It is a morning rāgam.[1][2]The similar scales inHindustani musicareRewaandBibhas.[2]

Structure and Lakshana

Revaguptiis a symmetric rāgam that does not containmadhyamamornishādham.It is a symmetric pentatonic scale (audava-audavaragam[1][2]in Carnatic music classification –audavameaning 'of 5'). Its ascending and descending scale (ārohaṇa-avarohaṇastructure) is as follows:

The notes used in this scale areshadjam, shuddha rishabham, antara gandharam, panchamamandshuddha dhaivatham,as perCarnatic musicnotation and terms for theswaras.Revaguptiis considered ajanyarāgam ofMayamalavagowla,the 15thMelakartarāgam, though it can be derived from 5 other melakarta rāgams by dropping both themadhyamamandnishādham.
