Richard Middleton (musicologist)

Richard MiddletonFBA isEmeritus Professorof Music atNewcastle UniversityinNewcastle upon Tyne.He is also the founder and co-ordinating editor of the journalPopular Music.

Education

Middleton studied atClare College,Cambridgeand at theUniversity of York,where hisPhDwas supervised byWilfrid Mellers.

Career

Middleton previously taught at theUniversity of Birminghamand theOpen University.He was appointed to his present position in 1998.

In 2004 Professor Middleton was elected to a Fellowship by theBritish Academy.[1]

Middleton retired from his post at Newcastle in 2005.
