Ronald E. Powaski(June 15, 1943 – November 2019)[1]was an Americanhistorianand teacher. He taughtAmerican historyin high schools and colleges in Ohio and wrote on the20th centuryforeign policiesof theUnited StatesandEurope.

Ronald E. Powaski wrote a book on theblitzkriegcampaign of theGerman militaryinWorld War II.

Biography[edit]

Early life and education[edit]

Ronald Powaski graduated fromCathedral Latin High Schoolin 1960. He earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in history fromJohn Carroll Universityin 1964 and 1966 and his PhD fromCase Western Reserve Universityin Cleveland in 1972 with a dissertation entitled "Great Britain and the Manchurian crisis, 1931-1933".[2]

Career[edit]

Powaski taught history atEuclid Senior High SchoolinEuclid, Ohio.[3][4] He also taught atCleveland State University,John Carroll University,[4]andAshland University.

In 1989 he publishedMarch to Armageddon: The United States and the Nuclear Arms Race, 1939 to the Present.[5]In the next two decades, he published 11 books covering the nuclear arms race, the creation of NATO, World War II, presidential statecraft, and presidential foreign policies.[5][6]
