Rosa Morandi
Rosa Morandi(born inSenigallia,15 July 1782; died inMilan4 May 1824), was an Italian operaticmezzo-soprano.She is especially notable for having created leading roles in operas byMeyerbeerandRossini.[1]
Training and career
[edit]Morandi studied withGiovanni Morandi,whom she married in 1804.[1]She sang atLa Scalain 1807 inCosì fan tutteand other operas and appeared in the world premiere of Rossini'sLa cambiale di matrimonioin Venice in 1810.[1]She sang in operas byMozart,Domenico Cimarosa,Rossini and others at theThéâtre Italienin Paris from 1813 until 1817[1]and created leading roles in the world premieres of Rossini'sEduardo e Cristinaand Meyerbeer'sEmma di Resburgoin Venice in 1819.[1]Morandi also appeared in the world premiere ofDonizetti'sChiara e Serafinaat La Scala in 1822 and was highly esteemed throughout her career for her dramatic and flexible singing.[1]
