Ross Benjamin
Ross Benjaminis an American translator ofGerman literature[1][2]and a 2015Guggenheim Fellow.[3]His most recent translation isThe Diariesof Franz Kafka.
He has won theHelen and Kurt Wolff Translator's Prizefor his translation ofMichael Maar'sSpeak, Nabokov.He also received a commendation from the judges of theSchlegel-Tieck Prizefor his translation ofThomas Pletzinger'sFuneral for a Dog.He is a graduate ofVassar Collegeand a formerFulbright scholar.
His translation ofDaniel Kehlmann's novelTyll(2017) was shortlisted for the2020 International Booker Prize.
Benjamin has written for theTimes Literary Supplement,The Nation,etc. He lives inNyack, New York.
TheTimes of Londonreferred to Benjamin as a "comic virtuoso" for his work onTyllbyDaniel Kehlmann.[4]
He is the son of attorney Jeff Benjamin and LCSW Betsy Benjamin.
