TheRuvu Riveris a river in easternTanzania.

The Ruvu River originates in the southernUluguru Mountainsand flows eastwards to empty into theIndian OceannearBagamoyo.Its chief tributary is theNgerengere River,which rises in the northern Ulugurus and flows through the city ofMorogorobefore joining the Ruvu. The Ruvu drains acatchmentof 11,789 km²,[1]which includes portions ofMorogoroandPwaniregions. TheWami Rivercatchment lies to the north and west, and theRufiji Rivercatchment lies to the south.

The Ruvu River is an important source of water for households, irrigated farms, and industries in communities along the river. It is also the principal source of water forDar es Salaam,Tanzania's largest city, which lies on the coast east of the Ruvu catchment.[2]It suffers increasing levels of pollution from the release of untreated households andindustrial wastewaterinto the river.[3]
