Ruwanwella fort(Sinhala:රුවන්වැල්ල බලකොටුවRuwanwælla Balakotuwa;Tamil:உருவான்வெல்லைக் கோட்டை,romanized:Uruvāṉvellaik Kōṭṭai), was initially a fortified base camp erected by thePortuguesein 1590s at Ruwanwella,Kegalle,Sri Lanka.[1][2]It was captured byDutchin 1665, who constructed a wooden fort (Ruanelle)[3]but abandoned it within a few years.[4]In 1817 theBritishbuilt a stone fort on the site with twobastions.[5]
Ruwanwella fort is currently being used as a police station.[6]
