Sagiolechiaceaeis a smallfamilyoflichen-formingfungiin the orderOstropales. It contains two genera,Rhexophiale,andSagiolechia,[1]thetype genus. The family wascircumscribedin 2010 by lichenologists Elisabeth Baloch,Robert Lücking,H. Thorsten Lumbsch, and Mats Wedin.Molecular phylogeneticanalysis showed that the two genera formed a distinctcladein Ostropales. Four species were included in the original circumscription of the family.[2]

Some Sagiolechiaceae species formcrustose lichenswithTrentepohlia-likephotobiontpartners (a genus ofgreen algae); other do not form athallusand arelichenicolous(i.e., they grow on other lichens).Asciare eight-spored with colourlessascosporesthat have transverseseptaor are muriform (i.e. divided into chambers by both transverse and longitudinal septa). The generaSagiolechiaandRhexophialemainly differ from each other in how theirfruiting bodiesdevelop.[2]
