Sam Ellis Haddon(born June 19, 1937) is an American attorney and jurist serving as an inactivesenior United States district judgeof theUnited States District Court for the District of Montana.
Early life and education
[edit]Haddon was born inWest Monroe, Louisiana.[1]He received aBachelor of SciencefromRice Universityin 1959 and aJuris Doctorfrom theUniversity of Montana School of Lawin 1965.[2]
Career
[edit]Haddon was an Immigration Patrol Inspector,United States Border Patrolfrom 1959–1961. He was an Agent with theFederal Bureau of Narcoticsfrom 1961–1962.
Haddon began his legal career as a law clerk forWilliam James Jameson.[3]He was in private practice inMontanafrom 1966–2001[4]at the law firm of Boone, Karlberg and Haddon.[3]Since 1971 he has been an adjunct instructor at the University of Montana School of Law.w[2]
Federal judicial service
[edit]Haddon, along withRichard F. Cebull,was recommended for the United States District Court for the District of Montana by Montana SenatorsMax BaucusandConrad Burns.[3]He would fill theGreat Fallsseat vacated by JudgeCharles C. Lovell.[4]PresidentGeorge W. Bushnominated Haddon on May 17, 2001.[5]Haddon was confirmed by theUnited States Senateon July 20, 2001 with a unanimous 95-0 vote.[6]He was sworn in on July 25, 2001.[5]
Haddon tooksenior statuson December 31, 2012. Cebull also retired from active service a few months later, leavingDana L. Christensenthe only active judge.[7]Haddon ceased taking cases after August 31, 2023.[5]
