Sammy Douglasis aDemocratic Unionist Party(DUP) politician, serving as theHigh Sheriff of Belfastsince 2024, and aBelfast City Councillorfor theTitanic DEAsince2023.Douglas was previously aMember of the Northern Ireland Assembly(MLA) forBelfast Eastfrom2011to2017.[1][2]
Career[edit]
Douglas was first elected to theNorthern Ireland Assemblyin the 2011 election, and was re-elected in2016,representing Belfast East. He did not seek re-election at the2017 Assembly election.[3]
In June 2022, Douglas was co-opted to Belfast City Council to replaceLisnasharraghrepresentativeDavid Brooks,following the latter’s election to the Assembly in theAssembly election that year.[4]He was returned to the council in the2023 local elections,this time for the Titanic District.
