Sanaz Toossi
Sanaz Toossiis an American playwright and screenwriter. Her playEnglishwon thePulitzer Prize for Dramain 2023.[1]
Life and career[edit]
Of Iranian descent, Toossi is fromOrange County,California;[2]her mother emigrated to the United States after theIranian Revolution.[3]She is an only child,[4]and grew up a self-described "weirdtheatre kid".[5]She graduated from theTisch School of the Artsin 2018,[3]having previously received her bachelor's degree from theUniversity of California, Santa Barbara.[6]Her plays are drawn from personal experience, and the experiences of her family.[4][3]Her playEnglishreceived theLucille Lortel Awardfor Outstanding Play in 2022.[7]In 2022 she received the Horton Foote Award from theDramatists Guild of America[8]and also the award for Best New American Play by theObie Awards.[9]
