Saxteadis a village andcivil parishin theEast Suffolkdistrict, in the county ofSuffolk,England. Saxtead gives its name to the settlements ofSaxtead Greenand Saxtead Little Green and the windmillSaxtead Green Windmill.The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 335.[1]Saxtead is located on theA1120 roadin between the town ofStowmarketand the village ofYoxford.
The place-name 'Saxtead' is first attested in theDomesday Bookof 1086, where it appears asSaxsteda.The name is thought to mean 'Seaxa's place'.[2]
