Geography

Scaër, encompassing 11,758 hectares, is the most spread-out city inFinistèreand the third inBrittany.Scaër is located 30.5 km (19.0 mi) east ofQuimperand 40 km (25 mi) northwest ofLorient.Historically, Scaër belongs toCornouaille.

Breton language

The municipality launched a linguistic plan concerning theBreton languagethroughYa d'ar brezhonegon 20 March 2007.

In 2008, 11.62% of primary-school children attended bilingual schools.[5]
