Senavati(pronounced sēnāvati) is aragaminCarnatic music(musical scale of South Indian classical music). It is the 7thmelakartarāgam (parent scale) in the 72melakartarāgam system of Carnatic music. It is calledSenāgraniinMuthuswami Dikshitarschool of Carnatic music.[1][2]

It is the 1st rāgam in the 2ndchakra Netra.The mnemonic name isNetra-Pa.The mnemonic phrase issa ra gi ma pa dha na.[1]Itsārohaṇa-avarohaṇastructure (ascending and descending scale) is as follows (seeswarasin Carnatic musicfor details on below notation and terms):

Theswarasin thisrāgamareshuddha rishabham, sadharana gandharam, shuddha madhyamam, shuddha dhaivathamandshuddha nishadham.As it is amelakartarāgam, by definition it is asampoornarāgam(has all seven notes in ascending and descending scale). It is theshuddha madhyamamequivalent ofGavambhodi,which is the 43rdmelakartascale..

Senāgraniis the 7thMelakartain the original list compiled byVenkatamakhin.The notes used in the scale are the same, but the ascending scale and descending scales are withvakra prayoga(zig-zag order in usage of notes).[3]

Senavati'snotes when shifted usingGraha bhedam,yields 2melakartarāgams, namely,LatangiandSooryakantam.Graha bhedamis the step taken in keeping the relative note frequencies same, while shifting theshadjamto the next note in the rāgam.
