Serban Ghenea(Romanian:Șerban Ghenea) is a Canadianaudio engineerandmixer.[2]
Early life and education[edit]
Ghenea was born in Romania, and in 1976 he moved toMontrealwith his family. He later attendedJohn Abbott College,Concordia University,thenMcGill University.[3]
He has a son, Alex, who is also a mixer and producer. At the66th Annual Grammy Awards(2024), Serban and Alex were both nominated in the new Best Pop Dance Recording category with separate recordings.[1]
Career[edit]
Ghenea's career began through a chance meeting withTeddy Rileyin 1993 while visiting his girlfriend (now wife), that lead to Riley hiring him as an in-house mi xing and recording engineer.[3]Throughout his career, Ghenea has worked with top artists in pop music, includingJuice Wrld,Ariana Grande,Adele,Taylor Swift,The Weeknd,Demi Lovato,Bruno Mars,Britney Spears,andJustin Timberlake.With Riley, Ghenea worked on projects that includedMichael JacksonandBlackstreet.[4]
Awards and nominations[edit]
As of 2024, Ghenea had been nominated for 45Grammy Awards.[1],and won a total of 20 Grammy Awards and threeLatin Grammy Awards.[4]
He won theGrammy Award for Album of the Yearfive times; winning forTaylor Swift's1989,folkloreandMidnights,Adele's25andBruno Mars'24K Magic.[5]Ghenea also won theLatin Grammy Award for Album of the YearforShakira’sFijación Oral, Vol. 1.
