Shihlun(Classical Mandaic:ࡔࡉࡄࡋࡅࡍ,romanized:Šihlun,lit.'he sent me'; also spelledShehlon[1]) is anuthra(angel or guardian) in theWorld of Light.[2]In theMandaean Book of John,he is noted for his opposition to the creation of the material universe byPtahiland his assistant uthras.[1]

In Mandaean scriptures[edit]

Chapter 62 of theMandaean Book of Johncontains a story of Shihlun's opposition to the creation of the material world byPtahiland other uthras. Ptahil, who fills the role of thedemiurge,creates the material world with the help of the uthrasHibil,Shitil,and Ayar ( "aether").[3]However, Shihlun chastises Ptahil and calls him an "evil man, son of an evil man" (biša br biša).[1]

Shihlun is mentioned inQolastaprayers 194 and 210.[4]Right GinzaBook 11 also mentions the uthra Shihlun as "the good light who gives excellent advice for his brothers."[2]
