Shijingshan District(Chinese:Thạch cảnh vùng núi;pinyin:Shíjǐngshān Qū) is an urbandistrictof the city ofBeijing.It lies to the west of the urban core of Beijing, and is part of theWestern Hillsarea, bordering the districts ofHaidianto the northeast and east,Fengtaito the south, andMentougouto the west. The district consists of 9 subdistricts of Beijing's city proper.
Although the hills aroundYunju Templemay also be calledShijingshan,they have Chinese characters different from those of the district and hence are unrelated to ShijingshanDistrict.
It is 86 square kilometres (33 sq mi) in area, making it one of the smaller districts in the greater urban part of Beijing (the immenseMentougou Districtto the west of it dwarfs Shijingshan District), and is home to 489,439 inhabitants (2000 Census). Itspostal codeis 100043.

[edit]The district is the location of hosting the2008 Summer OlympicsBMXandtrack-cyclingevents at the location of theLaoshan Velodrome,[4]as well as hosting the2022 Winter OlympicsBig Airsnowboardingandfreestyle skiingevents at theBig Air Shougang.[5]
Climate
[edit]Shijingshan District has ahumid continental climate(Köppen climate classificationDwa). The average annual temperature in Shijingshan is 12.7 °C (54.9 °F). The average annual rainfall is 540.8 mm (21.29 in) with July as the wettest month. The temperatures are highest on average in July, at around 26.5 °C (79.7 °F), and lowest in January, at around −3.3 °C (26.1 °F).
