Shimon ben Pazi

RabbiShimon ben Pazi,also known asRabbi Simon,was anamoraof the third generation. He was a student ofJohanan bar NappahaandJoshua ben Levi.He is commonly called "Rabbi Shimon ben Pazi" in theBabylonian Talmudand "Rabbi Shimon" in theJerusalem Talmudandmidrashim.He lived in the south of theLand of Israel[1]but also visitedTiberias,where he studied with Johanan bar Nappaha. He was the first to enumerate God'sThirteen Attributes of Mercy[2]and the first to use the technical theological phrasetiqqun soferim"scribal correction".
